MEDUSA - Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine

Dübendorf, Switzerland

ARIS, a Swiss academic rocketry and space association based at ETH Zürich, is opening freelance positions across multiple teams to support MEDUSA - our next-generation regeneratively-cooled Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine, developed in collaboration with ETH Zürich's AMLZ lab.

Engine Team

The Engine team owns the combustion chamber itself: its geometry, injector, and cooling design, built to survive detonation waves spinning up to 20,000 times per second.

We're looking for someone eager to dive into CFD and CAD work and get hands-on with thermal and structural analysis - ready to help push MEDUSA's regeneratively-cooled architecture from the drawing board onto the test stand.

Propellant Supply System (PSS)

The PSS team is responsible for delivering fuel and oxidizer to the engine with precise control over mass flow, temperature, and pressure, including the feed path that supplies MEDUSA's regenerative cooling jacket before injection.

If you enjoy working with fluid systems and want hands-on exposure to propellant feed and pressurized system design, we'd love your help turning MEDUSA's PSS into a tested, working system alongside our student team.

Data Acquisition and Control System (DACS)

The DACS team runs Mission Control for engine testing: a 20+ channel network of high-speed pressure, acoustic, and optical sensors used to capture and characterize detonation waves spinning up to 20,000 times per second, alongside the control software that sequences and monitors live engine tests.

This role suits someone interested in high-frequency data acquisition, real-time embedded systems, or control software, who wants to get hands-on building out DACS and seeing it through to the test stand with our team.
