MEDUSA - Media

Dübendorf, Switzerland

ARIS, a Swiss academic rocketry and space association based at ETH Zürich, is looking for a freelance photographer/videographer to document MEDUSA — our next-generation regeneratively-cooled Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine, developed in collaboration with ETH Zürich's AMLZ lab.

MEDUSA builds on ARIS's track record of firsts (the world's first student-built RDRE, the first student-built bi-liquid RDRE, and the first liquid propane/liquid oxygen RDRE), and we want that story told well — in the workshop, on the test stand, and in front of the camera.

We're looking for someone who can capture both the technical process and the people behind it: build sessions, integration work, and engine hot fire tests, turned into content we can use for our website, social media, and sponsor reporting. This is a contract engagement scoped around specific shoots/deliverables — please reach out with your portfolio, relevant experience, and availability.

Responsibilities

  • Shoot photo and video coverage of MEDUSA build sessions, integration work, and test campaigns (including hot fire tests, which may involve remote/long-lens setups for safety).
  • Edit and deliver polished photo sets and short-form video (highlight reels, social clips, and a longer recap/documentary-style piece as needed).
  • Work with the team to plan shoot logistics around test schedules, which can shift on short notice.
  • Deliver content in formats and specs suited to our website, Instagram/LinkedIn, and sponsor decks/reports.

Must Have

  • A portfolio demonstrating both photography and videography, ideally including technical/industrial, event, or behind-the-scenes work.
  • Proficiency in photo and video editing
  • Availability to shoot on short notice around test campaigns, which are often schedule-dependent (weather, hardware readiness).

Nice to have

  • Experience shooting technical/engineering environments, launches, or test events
  • Experience producing sponsor-facing or fundraising content.
  • Prior experience with student, non-profit, or academic organizations.
